Holiday Gift Giving Guide for Writers for 2012

I love this time of the year. Love it, love it, love it. Besides the religious dynamics, the opportunity to indulge in sinfully rich dishes and desserts, (without agonizing over calories for a day or two), and the joy of connecting with family and friends, it's a time of charity and giving.

And each year, I am touched and tickled by the myriad of gifts and good deeds I receive that keep me mindful of my blessings. And I am grateful to the creator.

One of these "gifts" is that of being a professional writer. Much gratitude to you for the gift of your readership and faithful "follow," and allowing me to connect and express.
Words can't convey the richness this adds to my existence.
It's truly been a blast. "Was it good for you too?" :-)

I'd like to extend even greater thanks for those of you who generously give your time and comments; through contributing to the lively discussions with sharing thoughts and questions, you help us all to grow, and you keep me motivated. :-)

In the spirit of giving, Pen & Prosper Peeps, I do hope you'll consider adding the products and books of those of my friends and selected businesses featured here to your shopping list.
Check out their sites and show support. As writers, if we don't support each other, who will? Hello!
It takes so little to mean so much.

And don't forget to score something for yourself. As a wise man once said: "Don't cheat yourself, treat yourself!"

Here's a list of recommended gifts for writers for all levels and genres:

  • Pretty journals for penning thoughts
  • Disposable cameras for quick pics
  • Assorted chocolates for endorphin lifts
  • Assorted teas and coffees with a decorative mug
  • Desk accessories
  • Gift certificates for creative classes
  • Ramen Noodles supply
  • Designer pens
  • Poetry books
  • A laptop bag
  • A book of postage stamps
  • A book of famous quotes

  • Gift baskets with a thoughtful theme (movie night, pampering, etc.)
  • Music CDs
Readers...Any of these on your "wish list"?
What has been your most cherished writer's gift recently? Do tell.

      Hi Lisa,

How lovely to hear from you today. And what a nice comment; it made me smile.
While writing tends to be cerebral, making my baskets allows me to be creative with my hands. It's very relaxing as well. And recipients really love the personal touch they provide. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and share your thoughts. I really appreciate it. :-)

    Linda,

Isn't it a cool quote? Sure gives us food for thought. Thank you for being one of my biggest cheerleaders. You're a "winner". :-)

  4. I love this season too! It brings out the best in people. Gift baskets or themed gift baskets are really cool gift ideas. I'd never thought of one for movies though, so thanks for that. Thanks for all you bring to your blog! Though I don't always comment, I always read. You're a source of information that I truly respect! Happiest of Holidays to you and yours!

      Yvonne,

Thanks for your lovely comment; it made my day this morning. :-) I really dig the movie basket concept because it works well for just about every age group. Get creative with it! You can add a movie, popcorn bowl, decorative salt shaker, movie-sized candies, etc.

  5. I love these ideas! I am a big fan of pretty notebooks and journals (maybe b/c I'm a writer...?). Your baskets are beautiful. I agree, it is great fun to make them up with someone special in mind.

You are a blessing - a special gift, and I am so glad we've gotten to know and work with each other. My life is richer for it! :)

Oh yeah, as far as the baskets...though it's truly nice to make them with "someone special in mind" it's also cool to make them and donate them to a women's shelter, senior home, church, or even as a raffled "give-away" prize to help others who may be less fortunate. They bring smiles in many forms!

    Karen,

What can I say to a comment like that? You are a true treasure. And such a loyal, generous spirit! I'd say we've both been blessed. :-) Thanks for hanging out with me here today.

  7. Wonderful blog! Do you have any tips for aspiring
writers? I'm hoping to start my own blog soon but I'm
a little lost on everything. Would you propose
starting with a free platform like Wordpress or go for a paid
option? There are so many choices out there that I'm totally overwhelmed .. Any suggestions? Thank you!

An other nice Writer's Gift might be the ability to more often be able to just Relax, and just being able to Be in - the Now -, I do think that it can be
    a great - Present -
