Pen and Prosper Honors Father's Day

It's been a busy week, peeps.
Backyard work, basement work, client work, prep for my annual "Poetry on 'da Patio" and birthday celebration.
But, I wanted to take time in the midst of the madness to touch base, and reflect upon and honor tomorrow--Father's Day.

No one can dispute that they are the backbones of strong families and solid communities.
Boys learn how to be men at their hands. While daughters learn how to love through their example.

No matter how "mature" we become, we never outgrow their influence or the need for their support.

Even music icon Luther Vandross devoted a beautiful tribute to his father in the song "Dance with my father." (If you have an opportunity to listen to it through YouTube or other avenue, you'll discover why it was a big hit for him as well). Simply lovely.

So, for all the fathers out there who are among my readership, for your father and mine, for the young and the old, and for those who have ended this life's journey, I send this heartfelt thanks and love.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY...ONE AND ALL.

  1. Jennifer--You are oh so right. No matter how old and stable and mature we get, we still yearn for our dads...even (and perhaps especially) when they're gone.

If you don't know Daniel Beaty and his poem "Knock Knock," you should check it out. (My post has a link.) He's phenomenal.

I hope you film some of your "Poetry on da Patio" event, and share some snippets?

I hope tomorrow is a great day for you, Jennifer.

      Sioux,

It was a great, "blessed" day-- with beautiful people, beautiful poetry, and a "spread" fit for a king. :-)

I cooked potato salad, made deviled eggs, Black bean and corn salad, and baked beans. We did a back yard "pot luck" of sorts. Friends brought with fried chicken, spaghetti, home made peach cobbler, pound cake, and more stuff than I can mention! :-) We read poetry, played "name that tune" and had an all-around grand time! It was well attended, and the weather even cooperated, (at the last minute with prayers being answered). :-) Thanks for asking.
