Roses and Thorns...
Where do I begin?
It's been an interesting month, folks. One of many peaks and valleys.
First off, I'm glad to be back on the scene and reconnected with each and every one of you. :-) Due to a nasty virus on my laptop, I was out of commission for awhile.
But, now I'm back on track!
Here's the lowdown on what's been happening in my corner of the world.
ROSES:
1. Recently I was honored to have been asked to serve as a guest speaker at the MENSA organization's conference scheduled in my area in October. For those who may be unfamiliar, MENSA is an organization of beautifully brilliant people with above average I.Q.s. Unfortunately, due to transportation issues and a few logistics, I had to decline. But, hey, that was a real cool invitation just the same.
2. After months of targeting the same publication and being rejected, I finally, finally, got an acceptance! YAY! Never underestimate the importance of confidence and persistence. :-)
3. Being Single Magazine, of which I am a staff writer, (for more than a decade) is now online. It's a great read, regardless as to your marital status.
4. My followers are becoming fierce in numbers! Thanks to all of you. I really dig and appreciate your support!
THORNS:
1. As mentioned before, I've had a heck of a time with computer troubles, which made me realize a few things. First, that I really have grown quite attached to this thing! Second, technology makes us as writers very vulnerable. True? I was on pen and needles hoping that my files could be restored. Some were very important, and could not be duplicated. But, thus far, all is well...praise be to God! Lesson learned---back up your files pronto! And invest in a good virus protection program.
2. This year is going by so quickly I can hardly believe it. The crazy weather is taking its toll on my allergies, and my sleep patterns. Not to mention, I have yet to finish my rose garden in my back yard.
Well, that's it folks. How about you? Any roses and thorns lately?
Roses:
ReplyDelete1. Copyrighted ABCs of Blogging Book. God it good!
2. Target market for services
3. Two paying blog clients
4. New ideas for blogging and live blogging promotion
Thorns:
1. My perception of a lack of support from people close to me but their prayers are felt so I'm OK.
2. Not enough Marcies to implement ALL my ideas.
Marcie,
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by. Sometimes support may not be "obvious" because it may not be outwardly expressed, but it's there. Like a good bra. :-)
Remember that we are living in busy times, and folks are trying to keep their heads above water with a lot of their own stuff--good and bad.
Congrats on your blogging success! Kudos on your paying clients! Keep moving forward...keep me posted. Okay?
Very descriptive blog post! Like that & it captures a lot of what many of us are going through-virus? Been there. Acceptances? Great feeling. Lost opportunity? Will come around again... Rejections- Makes us more determined:)
ReplyDeleteBring it!
Clara.
Clara,
ReplyDeleteSo how come you didn't warn me about the virus thing? Or that I'd fall in love with my laptop? Huh? Or that I'd be pullin' my hair out here and there...? ;-)
Thanks for stopping by and weighing in!
P.S. The reason this post seems so "descriptive" is because sometimes a girl has gotta vent. :-)
Congrats on the Mensa invite! I'd say it's something to be pleased about, even if you aren't able to do it. I'd surely be mentioning it offhandedly every chance I got! On my blog, at a dinner party, at the grocery store...:)
ReplyDeleteGlad too, that you got the computer issues taken care of. I'm pretty attached to my laptop too, and when the hard drive went a while back, it was a challenge. Amen to backing things up! Which reminds me, I need to do that sooner rather than later.
Some roses and thorns here, but they pretty much balance each other out. And nothing that a green tea frappuccino from Starbucks can't soothe. Just trying to figure out how to shorten the to-do list. Someone keeps adding things when I am not looking. What's up with that?
Happy rest of the week,
Karen
Hi Karen,
ReplyDeleteYep, I was pretty geeked about the invite!
Next year, if I get another opp, I'm in. :-)
Green tea from Starbucks? I gotta' try it.
Thanks for your thoughts. Until next time...:-)
